Alfred molina frida10/19/2023 I was very lucky my first day at secondary school was also the first day of a new English master, Martyn Corbett, who started a drama club and directed all the school plays. I was a bit of a show-off as a kid, apparently. He’d fought in the Spanish civil war and the second world war and then worked hard as a waiter. I have nothing but respect for him, because he worked like a Trojan all his life. My relationship with my dad was cordial but not very close, and I never quite reconciled with him before he died in 1999, which I regret. We had a few moments that resembled the third act of Aida. I loved her to death and I know she loved me, but we were both strong personalities and I inherited a lot of her fire and energy. My relationship with her was very tempestuous. She had gone back to Italy and found real, genuine happiness with a childhood sweetheart, which was pleasing to us. My mum was only 56 when she died of a massive blood clot on the brain. Then she asked, “Trevor, is my Alfred a good actor?” Trevor went, “He’s a very good actor,” and she said, “If he’s so good, why you don’t give him a job?” I wished the ground would swallow me up She came to the end-of-the-season party at the RSC in the 70s when I was a spear carrier and said: “Where is your boss?” I gingerly took her over to Trevor Nunn, who was the artistic director and was talking with Judi Dench, and he was very sweet to my mum. He’d come on a Friday night, leave with a holdall and come back on a Sunday. He was the same size as my mum and she used to lend him clothes. She had a friend at work who was a transvestite, a gay man who would go to parties and drag up.

A perfect world movie watch10/19/2023 In short, the movie is a warning about violence violence against children in particular. While A Perfect World could have easily been a standard chase movie about a manhunt, it’s consideration of its themes elevate it to greatness. It’s great writing that opens up a whole other trajectory for what seemed to be a stock character out of Eastwood’s gallery. Here, the Eastwood character is at first his usual on-screen persona, but the Laura Dern character calls him on his bullshit early on in a great exchange of dialogue (where she ends by calling him a “hillbilly Sherlock Holmes”). It’s as if these roles are being used to debunk the Eastwood mystique - that larger-than-life, gruff personality on-screen that Eastwood is so well-known for. Lowther gives a performance that is probably informed mostly by inexperience (he doesn’t play like a rehearsed child actor) but he has a very expressive face and you can tell that the character (as well as the actor) gains a lot of self-confidence as a result of the journey he is taking with the Costner character.Īlong with Unforgiven, this movie is very interesting when considering Clint Eastwood and what he represents as an actor. Lowther and the two have such great chemistry together that you, as an audience member, almost develop your own Stockholm Syndrome and dread when the two will eventually have to go their separate ways. In A Perfect World, the majority of Costner’s scenes are with young T.J. It should also be noted that the actor is great when working off of child actors (more evidence of this is in the recent Black or White). Butch is charming and sincere but also combustible and dangerous. It’s amazing and combines everything that he is good at. This is probably my favorite Kevin Costner performance. There is exceptional work done all around. Not one damn thing.” It’s a movie that is comfortable with ambiguity.īut none of that would matter if the performances weren’t a match to the script, which they are. There’s a line that closes the movie that sums its players up perfectly. Writing A Perfect World, in my opinion, is by far his best work. Credit goes to screenwriter John Lee Hancock (who would later go on to direct The Rookie and The Fucking Blind Side). This movie is not just about behavior, but rather the psychology involved in that behavior. They verbally (and non-verbally) consider the consequences of their actions. And both men wear their angst like weights around their ankles. The “bad guy” is shown as capable of providing the love of a father and acting as an innocent boy’s protector, while the “good guy” is portrayed as a man who despite his best intentions is at least partly responsible for the creation of a criminal. They are allowed to be more than one thing. First and foremost, it’s the two main characters. Instead, let’s talk about why A Perfect World is so great. I don’t want to spend any more time harping on Eastwood’s recent output (some of which, let’s not kid ourselves, is good). Giving a shit looks good on him.īut I digress. In A Perfect World, Eastwood cared enough to make sure the cars had vehicle registration stickers with the correct years for the time in which the movie is set. For example, in 2015 Eastwood is rightfully getting all kinds of flak for using an obviously fake baby in American Sniper. It’s from the days when he seemed to be more invested in the stories he was telling both from an emotional and technical standpoint. I’m a big fan of Unforgiven, but this might be his best movie as a director. Since then, the movie is discussed every once in a while but often ignored, especially when considering director Eastwood’s filmography. It would later go on to turn a profit, but much of its grosses were made internationally. Despite strong reviews, star power and a plum Thanksgiving weekend release date, A Perfect World did not catch on at the U.S. It also starred and was directed by Clint Eastwood, who had just come off recent critical and commercials hits like Unforgiven and In the Line of Fire (another very strong movie from 1993). It starred Kevin Costner, one of the most bankable stars in Hollywood at the time, who was coming off of a string of recent hits including Dances with Wolves, JFK, Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves and The Bodyguard. The response to the movie back in November of 1993 was somewhat surprising.

Inside job netflix wikipedia10/19/2023 This puts the audience attention somewhere other than where it needs to be. Ferguson doesn’t mention or explain our economic system. After watching this movie and doing my research, I came across some interesting facts. Though the inside job won one Oscar, there are still some problems within this documentary. These graphs and charts further explain the message that the narrator is trying to deliver. These graphs are very informative that they cover mostly everything from investor earnings to rising costs. Though the graphs are attractive, it doesn’t take away from the point they make throughout the documentary. To help the audience to make sense of this and understand what’s going on, Ferguson shows many engaging graphs and charts. This documentary shows a convincing analysis over scheme series. It reveals the failure that led to the crisis in a way that the audience can understand exactly what happened in a detailed way. It also makes everything clear without the audience being confused. It is divided into five parts How we got there, The bubble, The crisis, Accountability, and Where are we now, mainly covering the misconduct of the United States by the financial industry. This film is an excellent review of the financial crisis investigating the sequence of poor decisions, economic problems, and deregulations that led up to the financial crisis. Therefore, this film leaves people in discouragement because it confirms that we cant trust any authority because most of what brought the economy down was not legal and done by people who worked within the economy. They were making risky investments and lenders didn’t care if borrowers could repay so they started making risky loans. They knew that what they were doing was wrong but clearly didn’t care because their focus was on making money. Regulators, Politicians, and Businessmen were involved. The Inside Job did an excellent job of showing that this Financial Crisis wasn’t an accident and that there were many people involved in this corruption. The awful outcome of this is that no one went to jail they all walked away with billions. The film moves on to show their failure in the financial structure. The film then moves forward to go after the events from the Raegan era deregulation to the fear of the collapse of insurance and banks. Within five years they went from ideal to poor. The film’s introduction shows the reduction of Iceland during their deregulation period. The film is separated into five parts, each explaining what happened during the crisis, and also shows interviews of people to follow the story from the US to Iceland. This documentary is an excellent overview of the 2008 financial crisis because it provides detailed inspections of the events that led to the crisis. By doing substantial investigation and interviewing journalists, politicians, academics, and financial insiders, the film tries to find out what caused this financial crisis. During this crisis Millions of people lost their jobs and homes. This was the second biggest crisis since the Great Depression. However, we will definitely update you once we know more. The Inside Job documentary released in 2010, directed by Charles Ferguson is a detailed film about the US financial crisis in 2008.

Best criminal minds episodes season 810/18/2023 Spencer shows up to the office wearing a Frankenstein mask and expresses how much he loves costumes! A man after my own heart. Spence is a huge fan of it, because he loves dressing up, whereas Morgan doesn’t really care for it. He and bad boy Derek Morgan have a brief chat about their differing opinions of the holiday. This is the first mention of Halloween on the show and my boy Spencer is a huge fan of the holiday, apparently. The second victim didn’t go to the police, because she was afraid her concerns would also be dismissed - does that hit too close to real life? Perhaps, but I’m pleased that this episode really used Halloween to its full dramatic potential.Īside from the crime, the team discusses Halloween plans. Throughout the episode, the mistake haunts them. The whole reason the first lady gets murdered is because the police dismiss her concerns as a Halloween prank! Already we’re making much more use of the holiday than the previous episode on this list. Also, SSA David Rossi returns to the BAU from retirement. Official Criminal Minds plot synopsis: The BAU travels to Dallas to assist in the search for a murderer who scares his victims with “missing” flyers that display the soon-to-be victims’ photos. We learn that this homeless guy didn’t actually do anything wrong! He’s covering up for his brother, who he thinks is a dog, and is murdering men who remind him of their abusive father. What’s going on here? There’s definitely more disembodied arms and legs than on a typical Criminal Minds episode, but the eventual mystery has more to do with the homeless man’s fixation on a dog that doesn’t exist than it does any grandiose murder schemes. We cut to the homeless dude flinging more limbs onto a hiking trail. The episode starts off promising: a police officer finds a bag of severed limbs among a homeless man’s stuff. Nothing! Nothing at all! Frankly, I want to formally pen a letter to the Wikipedia user who suggested this.ĭoes the crime in question feel like it belongs in a horror movie? Is there a reference to a Halloween tradition? The Behavioral Analysis Unit’s tech analyst Penelope Garcia wears a bright orange ensemble, but other than that, no. The rest of these episodes, at the very least, use Halloween as a framing device for the non-crime-solving bits. 26, I would not even have known it was a Halloween episode. If this episode were not listed on the Halloween TV specials Wikipedia page and had it not premiered on Oct. Meanwhile, Reid is faced with a dilemma regarding his mother. Official Criminal Minds plot synopsis: The BAU travels to the Appalachian Trail in rural Virginia in search of a serial killer who is operating along that route. Using a totally scientific rubric examining the Halloween-ness of the episodes in question, as well as the crimes and murders in question, I ranked all the Halloween episodes of Criminal Minds. But in what order should you watch them?Ĭonsider the worst-to-best marathon. But that’s also the perfect number of episodes to marathon on Halloween. That seems a little low for a show that was on since 2005 and dedicated to grandiose murders more befitting of horror movies than crime procedurals. It was gimmicky, over-the-top, and absolutely wonderful to consume for hours on end.Īcross its 15 season, 299 episode run, apparently Criminal Minds has only had six Halloween-themed episodes. Following the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit, the show dealt with the sort of serial killers that would usually only make appearances on Very Special Episodes of regular crime procedurals. That’s part of the reason I love it, actually.Ĭriminal Minds ended earlier this year. And it’s also no secret that I think it is an objectively bad show. It’s no secret that I love Criminal Minds.

Nestopia emulator work with ps3 controller10/18/2023 Users have two options for save states: quick saving and regular save states. A user can utilise save states by a keyboard shortcut or simply going to File and clicking the appropriate option. This is a big boon in NES emulation, especially since a majority of games from that era did not support saving. They save the exact state of the game and allow the user to load to it instantaneously. Save states are an important feature in modern emulators. What are save states and how do they work in Nestopia? This is probably the best option for games with a more cartoony aesthetic. xBR: This image scaling implementation involves heavy anti-aliasing to remove any jagged lines/borders, at the cost of adding blur around edges. This is the best option for users who want the highest image quality out of NES titles. Hqx:A slightly different implementation of ScaleX which involves smoothing or rounding of jagged pixels.ScaleX: This is a more advanced implementation which involves anti-aliasing (rounding of jagged lines) without causing much blurring.NTSC: This filter attempts to emulate the fuzziness of old NTSC television.Scanlines: Remember old CRT televisions? Well, scanlines were a part of old display technology, so this filter implements scanlines into the graphics to imbue old school nostalgia and reduce jagged lines!.Let’s look through some of the available screen scalers: Well, each filter has their own algorithm and method to upscale the image and improve quality. The screen shown below will appear, and the desired filter can be selected and saved from here. To access filters, go to Options > Video. In other words, filters help increase the quality of the game graphics and this can be done through a variety of methods, some of which are looked into here. Screen filters are scalers that upscale the emulation graphics. Click on the folder where the ROMs reside and then click Open to launch the game immediately! What are screen filters and should you use them? Set All allows the user to reconfigure each button using a step-by-step process.Īfter obtaining some NES Roms (which will be discussed further ahead), one should load the ROM into the emulator to initiate the software. You can change any of these bindings to your liking by double clicking on them in the “Mapping” tab, and pressing the new binding. The red arrows under the key tab point to the buttons on the keyboard that are bound to the NES controller. The highlighted “Pad 1” refers to player 1 on the emulation software. Next, you will arrive at the screen shown below. Nestopia supports a variety of control options such as keyboard, controller, joystick, touchpad, etc. To open Nestopia, click on the nestopia.exe icon and you are done! How to setup keyboard or gamepad support on Nestopia? zip file from the official website, one has to extract the. Nestopia supports almost all major computer operating systems out there, and the installation process is very simple. How does one go about installing Nestopia on their system? RetroArch is a great all in one emulation system which might be complex for new users. However, emulators like Nestopia and FCEUX provide some useful features that can help solve some issues with older hardware emulation. This is great for modders and speedrunners who want as close to an original experience as possible. This means that the emulation of games is done with 100% accuracy. For instance, Higan is a great emulator which is cycle accurate. Each emulator has their own benefits and drawbacks, and it is up to the user to decide which one fits their usage. Which one among these is the best? Simply put, there is no one answer. Why should you use Nestopia?įCEUX, Nesticle, Nestopia, Higan, etc. However, it is still a great emulator for users to get into nowadays, due to its strong port and ability to run on a large variety of systems. Nestopia began development in June 2003, and the final open sourced version was published in June 2008. It also supports the emulation of custom controllers such as Power Glove. Compared to FCEUX, another NES emulator popular among users, Nestopia offers customisation of colours, sounds and graphics of the emulated software. Compared to the more popular emulators in the scene, Nestopia strives for accuracy in emulating clock cycles. A Tutorial For Nestopia, An NES Emulator That Prides On Accuracy
